Jami Quillen
Jami has performed for over 30 years and has been in many singing competitions such as American Idol, Got 2nd place in Nashville Star (2006) AND Backyard BBQ (2021), Americas Got Talent, and The Voice to name a few! She was also nominated 4 times for Toledo Idol. She signed with Sony Records in Nashville, TN from 1997-2000.
She has also sung every season for the Toledo Mud Hens as well as the Toledo Walleye since 2003.
Jami is in another duo group called "Acoustic Hoopla!"
Nick Vas
Nick has played guitar for over 25 years and has come from a praise and worship background. Mostly playing music for his church groups at various churches such as St. Thomas Moore Parish in Bowling Green, St. Thomas Aquinas, St. Patricks of Heatherdowns, and Corpus Christi.
Nick has always wanted to be part of a music group while being able to play his music and is absolutely thrilled to be a part of this with Jami!
Origin Story
Nick and Jami met in April 2023. Jami is in another acoustic duo group called "Acoustic Hoopla" and Nick would attend these shows and eventually helping to hook all the wires up for the band as an unofficial groupie. This went on for about three months until Nick finally asked if he could play some music for Jami. Not knowing that he played at all, she agreed. After a couple of songs, Jami started to sing along with his guitar and then opened all the windows to his music room and a small crowd started to form.
Right then, we knew we had something special and we both agreed that we needed to showcase our talents that we share together with everybody else! Lucky Penny emerged from a shared passion for live music and creating unforgettable experiences!
Why the name "Lucky Penny?"
We were trying to think of a name for our group and we wanted something that would incapsulate both of us and how we got to this point in our lives. We both love Chris Stapleton and we were playing one of his songs called "Starting Over." In the song he writes "Let's take our chances and roll the dice, I can be your LUCKY PENNY, you can be my four-leaf clover, Starting over."
Jami stopped singing and looked up at me and said, "That's it! That will be our name!"
We decided to roll the dice and try to create something special and use our musical talents. We made a decision that not all men and women are the same and that each person deserves their own chance. We are rolling the dice on our musical group as we try to transfer our love and passion for music to our audience!
